5/6/03 - The Simpsons are NOT from Kentucky!

Ever since the "Behind The Laughter" episode, some people simply will not believe that the Simpsons are not from Kentucky.  This came from the commentator saying something about "this northern Kentucky family".  There are plenty of facts to show that the Simpson family is not from Kentucky, and it is my belief that the commentator was referring to the fictitious "actors" who play the Simpsons.  Nothing in that episode was true, such as MC Hammer's house and the brawl with Jimmy Carter, so why would this?  Springfield is not located in any specific state.  Here are some facts to back up my point.

-In the episode where Bart plays football, with Homer as the coach, Springfield plays Arlen, the city from the Fox show "King of the Hill".  After losing, Hank says "we drove 2000 miles for this?"  Is Kentucky 2000 miles from Arlen?
-In a classic episode, the Simpsons take a trip to New York City.  NYC is a $10 bus trip from Springfield.  Is Kentucky a $10 bus trip from NYC?
-Homer and Flanders take a trip to Las Vegas.  They drive there, and walk back.  Is Nevada within walking distance of Kentucky?
-Springfield has a frickin harbor!  How many harbors are there in Kentucky?
-Homer joins the Navy, and is placed aboard a Nuclear sub.  This sub departs from Springfield, into the Pacific Ocean.  Is Kentucky on the west coast?
-In a recent episode, Homer and Lenny leave town to work on oil rigs in West Springfield.  West Springfield is a huge desert that is three times the size of Texas.  Does such a place exist next to Kentucky?
-More than once, the show simply says "Springfield, USA".  In the X-Files episode with Mulder and Scully, in typical X-Files style, the city is written on the screen, it says Springfield, USA.  In the MENSA episode, Springfield, USA moves up to number 499 on the list of America's most livable cities.
-In the Civil War, Springfield was in, out of, and next to the Union.  Was Kentucky?
-In another recent episode, the elementary school visits the state capital, and a representative points out that the state flag is a disgrace, as it has a confederate symbol on it, and they live in a Northern state.  Is Kentucky a northern state?

That should be enough for now.
